By Puppy Stopnik Best Coast formed in 2009 by Bethany Coentino and Bob Briuno in Los Angeles. Bethany had been around the music scene at a very young age. She began her music career at age 15, inspired by artists such as Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. She started a band with her friend Amanda Brown called "Pocahaunted". At one point they opened up for Sonic Youth. Bethany left the band to pursue creative writing at "Eugene Land Liberal Arts" in New York City. After her second semester, she realize that there is nothing like the sunny West Coast. She dropped out and moved back home. She got back together with Bob and they began to record some new music at his home studio. The duo released their debut album "Crazy For You. The album received a lot of buzz and became a mainstream success in July 2010. The band gained more popularity after touring in 2011. Best Coast then released the album "The Only Place" in May of 2012. They recorded at Capital Records in Los Angeles. This album really showed their talent in many ways. On October 22, 2013 Best Coast came out with an EP titled "Faded Away' produced by Wally Gagel, inspired by Mazzy Star kind of tones. On May 5, 2015 the duo released their most recent studio album "California Nights" also recorded by Wally Gagel. Best Coast has such a unique sound, a mixture between 60s garage surf punk and girl groups.

Girlpool is a folk punk band from Los Angeles, created in 2013. Girlpool is made of members Cleo Tucker (guitar and vocals) and Harmony Tividad (bass and vocals). They don't have a drummer, just bass and guitar, which is pretty rad.

Their self titled debut EP was put on Bandcamp in 2014 but was re-released later that year on Wichita Recordings. With short red hair and rainbow socks, these girls are the most stylish and talented on the west coast. They released an album on June 2, 2015 title "Before the World was Big" also on Whichita recordings.

The melody Girlpool makes is breathtaking. My personal favorite song would have to be "Cut Your Bangs."

Right now they are currently touring the East Coast. I hope they can make it to my side of the land so I can see them live!

The Garden is a duo Punk band from Orange County. It consists of twin brothers Wyatt and Fletcher Shears. The Garden started in early 2011. With just Fletcher on drums and Wyatt on bass and vocals, the fast pace brothers rip through the Orange County music scene.

In 2013 the brothers released their first full-length album titled "The Life and Times of a Paperclip" on Burger Records. Fletcher and Wyatt are creating a whole new music genre...."Vada Vada" I should say. On top of their music ability they are also quite good at hockey. A little while after the release of their album, Fletcher began releasing some material from his side project "Puzzle" and Wyatt started sharing his project "Enjoy" consisting of synth/bass.

The Garden toured extensively in 2014 and 2015, stopping in Tokyo, the US, and Europe. In fall 2015 they issued the album "HaHa." The Garden is like no other. They are showing us a whole different side of music. He sums up their career quite simply in an interview with MTV. "We walk quickly. We dressed quickly. We work quickly. We record quickly."

Alvvays, pronounced "Always", is a Canadian Indie rock band formed in Toronto, Canada in 2011. Containing vocalist Molly Rankin, keyboardist Kerri MacLellan, guitarist Alec O'Hanley, bassist Brian Murphy and drummer Phill MacIsaac.

Molly grew up writing music with her neighbor, keyboardist Kerri MacLellan. In her later teen years she met guitarist Alec O'Hanely at a concert. Alec helped Molly quietly release a solo extended play titled "She" in 2010.

In the following year Avvays was formed including the new band mates. The group toured extensively as supporting acts for bands such as "Peter Bjorn and John". They recorded their debut album with Chad VanGaalen in March 2013. After the album was complete, the group made cassette copies to pass out at festivals and concerts. Soon they were signed to Polyvinyl records.

Alvvays got #1 on the US college chart on August 5, 2014. Their song "Archie Marry Me" became a hit. They were described as an "Indie Pop Wonder". This is the type of music you can put on loop for hours and not get sick of it, very soothing.

The band toured heavily in support of their debut, including performing at Glastonbury 2015. Alvvays is currently in studio recording and writing their second album! I cannot wait to see what they come up with. Future come faster!!
