Restaurant Reviews by Carson Hart

Their menu has any breakfast food you can imagine, ranging from pancakes, to omelettes, to any different assortment of muffins! But don't fear, non-breakfast food eaters, as they also include all kinds of other grub such as burgers or sandwiches.

Back to the breakfast, I decided to go with the classic banana waffles, with bacon and two scrambled eggs. Of course milk is also a necessity! As you can see my friends here strategically diversified our table, by also including pancakes, an omelette, and french toast!

Here is an overview shot of the feast!

Keep in mind, no one ever leaves this place with a full plate. Here's the aftermath!

And that's a wrap! Here is my good friend Cole Riddle rocking the new Blam! shirt beside me. Overall, I give this place a 9.5/10. The prices are fair, its close to the beach, the service is great, and the food is amazing! Thanks everyone, and stay tuned for the next Bi-Monthly Crunch!

Local Yolk. Manthattan Beach, CA
Rating- 9.5/10
Hello everyone and welcome to the first Bi-Monthly Crunch! To start this baby off, why go to any place other than the Local Yolk! Located in northern Manhattan Beach, this beach cafe is perfect for any post surf sesh meal. Today, my friends Caley, Cole, and Justin decided to take the dive themselves into this breakfast heaven.

Norman Lewis was born July 23, 1909 in Harlem, New York. At a young age Lewis took interest in painting and had obtained an extensive collection of art history books by the time he was a teenager. Prominent sculptor Augusta Savage had an impact on Lewis's young art career as a mentor. Savage let him use open studio space where she taught at Harlem Art Center. In addition Savage helped guide the young Lewis, who had not had received any form of artistic education following grade school. In the late 1920's and early 1930's Lewis worked for the government WPA program with many other artists of the time to create large public murals. Lewis's career as an artist really began in 1933 when he received recognition for his figurative works such as Meeting Place. He continued to paint figuratively through the 1930's depicting scenes from his life in New York from jazz music and human interaction to Police brutality.

After World War II Lewis's work became increasingly abstract. His work departed from figuration into abstraction due to the racial discrimination Lewis experienced during the war and his overall disillusionment with America.  Lewis felt as though art was at a point where a painting didn't possess the power to change anything; so Lewis felt that the artist should focus his energy solely towards aesthetic skill. His painting Migrating Birds won the Popular Prize at the Carnegie Museum in the 1955 Carnegie International Exhibit. The New York Herald- Tribute called the painting "one of the most significant of all events of the 1955 art year". Despite his numerous gallery contracts and countless awards Lewis's work did not sell as well as many of the other Abstract Expressionists of the time so he relied on teaching to support himself and his family. He won many awards throughout his career but perhaps the greatest was in 1975 when he received a Guggenheim Fellowship. He died rather unexpectedly in August of 1979 in Harlem, New York.

This week's thrifting with Puppy I went to GoodWill in Costa Mesa! I had never been to that one ever! I was excited to see what I could find! I found this cute boho flowy blouse for $5! Wow! So chic! I figured out this year you could never have enough flannels, so I got this one for my collection!! I was stoked to find this high wasted jean skirt since they are coming back. I really needed a new beach bag and I found this old back pack for only $1.50!!! Shout out to Goodwill for having the worst lighting in the dressing rooms:)
Until next week, stay hydrated.

Under Greenberg's guidance and his own personal interests Bush began to work in Color Field painting style and became closely connected with the movement. The group Painters Eleven disbanded in 1960 and Bush moved on to become the most successful of the group. He became one of Canada's most prominent artists of the period. In 1976 the Art Gallery of Ontario held a giant retrospective of his work. Sadly he died the following year on January 24th of 1977.

Jack Bush was born on March 20th 1909 in Toronto, Canada. When he was a boy he apprenticed for Adam Sheriff Scott and Edmond Dyonnet, both of whom were influential Canadian painters. As his pursuit of art continued he began to work in the commercial art business while studying art at Ontario College of Art. During his young painting career Bush was not exposed to European influences unlike many other artist's of the time. This was due inpart from the American Abstract movement's takeover of the New York art scene. Seeing the works of the Abstract Expressionist painters greatly influenced Bush's painting development.
After finishing school and trying to pursue being an artist Bush developed his style as a more abstract approach. He was greatly influenced by the American painters of the time. In the 1950's he became part of a group named Painters Eleven. The group consisted of other Canadian painters who dealt with abstraction in their work. The group held many exhibitions around Canada. Though these shows American Art critic Clement Greenberg was exposed to Bush's work. Greenberg was highly critical and became a mentor figure to Bush. Greenberg helped Bush dial in his painting approach.
Under Greenberg's guidance and his own personal interests Bush began to work in Color Field painting style and became closely connected with the movement. The group Painters Eleven disbanded in 1960 and Bush moved on to become the most successful of the group. He became one of Canada's most prominent artists of the period. 1. I.D.W by P.H.F
This is a band I don’t know much about - I think the songs are written and recorded by a guy in New Zealand. He has a really cool aesthetic going on and I love his songs.
This song is so badass and fun. I love the guitars and fuzzy vocals. The production sounds like it could be home recorded but every aspect seems intentional and well done.
2. Glued To You by Tomorrows Tulips
This would be a perfect song to listen to while lying at the beach. Or doing any kind of vegetating. I love how hazy it is. It’s also beautiful and kind of sweet. I definitely associate this song and band with summer and Southern California.
3. 90210 by The Courtneys
The Courtneys are a rad 3 piece from Vancouver, BC. The band makes me think about spring in Canada - what it’s like for the snow to finally melt and the feeling of opportunity, hope and newness in the air, knowing that summer is on the way.
4. Bikeage by The Descendents
I included this song simply because it’s one of the best punk songs ever written.
5. Drinking in LA by Bran Van 3000
This band is from Montreal, Canada, close to where I grew up. They are what you’d call a one-hit wonder from the late 90’s. This song was on the radio and on a compilation CD all my friends and I had in elementary school. When I moved to the States it surprised me that no one here had heard it before. I still love the song many years later.
6. Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus
This is such a sweet pop song! The music video is great too. The lead singer wears a bucket had and they have a tambourine player who wears really gives it his all, and the video also features Mena Suvari who is such a babe. This is the perfect song to listen to while driving in your car.
7. Postcard Radio by Froth
This is off Froth’s new album. They’re based in LA and are awesome. This is such a catchy and melodic song that still has a little bit of darkness to it. Froth’s sound and aesthetic remind me of Southern California - what it means to live here… Constant sunshine and haziness.
8. Funspot by Audacity
This is a great party song by Fullerton natives, Audacity. It was hard to pick which song by them I wanted to use because they’re all great. Funspot is perfect to listen to when you’re getting hyphy and excited with your friends!
9. For the Feel by Bleached
A perfect pop song by Bleached. This is a perfect sound track to summer no matter what you’re getting up to. I love the harmonies as well as the simplicity of the different components. It’s a super classic sounding song. Really well done and fun.

Canadian turned California girl Peach Kelli Pop (Allie Hanlon) has a power punk sound that will blast your socks clear off. She creates bold and honest songs with a fun and catchy flare. From her heartfelt lullaby's to her signature mile a minute guitar riffs Peach Kelli Pop's seamless sound is sure to become a favorite! We demand you go out and buy her fantastic new album, Peach Kelli Pop III, released through Burger Records! You won't be sorry!
