Tuesday Art ATTACK- Leo Politi “Miss McKinzies Yard”

 This painting is by Caldecott winner and well known artist Leo Politi. This is from his famous book Bunker Hill, Los Angeles: Reminiscences of Bygone Days, published in 1964. The book commemorated Los Angeles's Bunker Hill before it was torn down in 1955, it was decided that all of the homes and buildings in the area would be cleared for a new business development. Bunker Hill was the largest Victorian area in Southern California and was the center of Downtown Los Angeles. The area was completely cleared by 1968.

Tuesday Art ATTACK- 2600 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica


These are pictures of the incredible 2600 Wilshire Blvd Home Savings that was built in 1970. This Santa Monica Landmark features beautiful artwork created by some wonderful Los Angeles artists. The front mosaic was designed by Millard Sheets and executed by Denis O'Connor and Nancy Colbath. The fantastic sculptures are by artist Richard Ellis. The Home Savings Bank chain was purchased by the late Washington Mutual in 1998 for 6.4 billion dollars. Many of the Home Savings branches were either shuttered or converted. This is a painting done by American artist Robert Bechtle in 1975. He is one of the earliest Photorealist's having started in the mid 1960s. Photorealism is an art movement that started in the 1960s and works to perfectly mimic life like a photograph.
