Tuesday Art ATTACK- Sam Cherry “Cowboy Shootout”

Sam Cherry Cowboy ShootoutThis is another exciting Pulp illustration from American artist Sam Cherry. Pulp magazines were inexpensive fiction periodicals that were a popular form of reading for young men during the late 1890s to the 1950s. Pulps were known for their exciting melodramatic tales of adventure, mystery, horror, and love. They were called Pulps because of the cheap pulp paper they were printed on. Many pulps had fantastic colorful and dramatic covers like the oil painting above. Cherry created this cover in the 1940s for a western Pulp magazine. Cherry created many classic pulp cover through out his long career.
